Karate as a physical module of DofE
Learning karate has a multitude of benefits such as increasing general fitness, self-defence and improving mental wellbeing. You don’t need to be fit to start and there are a range of classes to attend from once to several times per week.
Karate is practised in a group setting with each student looking to their own personal development. Targets may be set in the short term by learning a key aspect of karate, eg. a kata form, whereas a longer term goal might be to take a grading or to participate in a competition.
Choosing to participate in Shotokan karate with Shiranamikai may count towards the Physical Section of your Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. We have helped a number of people achieve their target DofE modules.
Participants will need to keep a record of each class they attend. DofE provides useful resources to help keep track of progress.
Please check applicability with your DofE Leader and discuss with your karate instructor before commencing.
